What Is HOOPLA?

HOOPLA is an empowerment project founded by artist Perrin Marie that transforms reclaimed materials into large-scale wearable sculptures inspired by the political significance of the hoopskirt.

Through exhibitions, educational programming, community engagement, and public art experiences, HOOPLA invites people to take up space and get loud about it—or, as we like to say, make HOOPLA.

Why Does This Matter?

HOOPLA began with a simple question:

What happens when we stop shrinking ourselves and start taking up space?

Through large-scale wearable sculptures built from reclaimed materials, HOOPLA transforms discarded objects into works that are impossible to ignore.

The HOOPLA Tea Party is more than a fundraiser.
It is an opportunity to invest in creativity, sustainability, education, and community while supporting artists who are learning to take up space in their own lives.

Funds raised support HOOPLA's exhibitions, programming, and the launch of HOOPLA Rising, a youth mentorship program that empowers emerging artists to create wearable sculptures from reclaimed materials.

Because art transforms more than materials.

It transforms confidence, connection, and the way we see ourselves in the world.
