SELF PORTRAITS

WHY SELF PORTRAITS?

HOOPLA was born from a desire to take up space—boldly, loudly, and with purpose.

The concept began with artist and founder Perrin Marie, who sought autonomy after stepping away from the modeling world. In search of deeper artistic expression, she wove together her values as an artist, environmentalist, and human to create the DOLL HOUSE COLLECTION—a striking series of self-portraits featuring fashion crafted entirely from trash.

A gifted hoopskirt from a previous photoshoot became her canvas. Adorned with recycled materials, the skirt transformed into a wearable sculpture. As Perrin moved, the clinking of soda cans echoed with joy. The sensation of physically taking up space—visibly and audibly—was intoxicating. It was art that refused to whisper.

Her curiosity led her to the hoopskirt’s deeper history, discovering its political symbolism and the generations of individuals who had also used fashion to assert space and presence. She realized she wasn't alone—and she didn't want others to be, either.

From this revelation, HOOPLA was born:
A platform for self-portrait artists to take up space, make noise, and express themselves unapologetically.

Perrin Marie considers it both humbling and an honor to support others in their creative and personal journeys. Through HOOPLA, she hopes to continue inspiring people to step into their power, embrace their voice, and make a little HOOPLA of their own.
