HOOPLA
On Display at Golden Belt

HOOPLA is a solo exhibition by artist Perrin Marie, on view at

Golden Belt Campus from January 21 through March 31.

Rooted in fashion history, activism, and empowerment, HOOPLA reimagines the

19th-century hoop skirt as a powerful contemporary symbol.
Each large-scale wearable sculpture is built from discarded materials—bottles, cans, plastics, and found objects—transforming what was thrown away into something loud, expansive, and impossible to ignore.

Once dismissed as restrictive or excessive, HOOPLA celebrates the hoop skirt as a tool of resistance: a way to take up space—physically, socially, and politically.
The exhibition features 12 wearable sculptures designed to inspire viewers to
take up space and get loud about it.

HOOPLA WORKSHOP
Led by internationally published artist Perrin Marie, HOOPLA workshops are where art,
activism, and empowerment collide. Participants explore how fashion has been used to
both silence and amplify—reclaiming the hoop skirt as a site of power, protest, and
presence.
No experience is needed—just a willingness to take up space.

Activity
Participants in this HOOPLA Pop-Up will have the opportunity to create one of
HOOPLA’s signature headpieces. Crafted using scrap steel hoops from hoop skirts and
recycled plastics, attendees will explore several of the same techniques used in building
full hoop skirts—then translate them into their own bold, wearable HOOPLA headpiece.

Art that refuses to whisper. Fashion that fights back.

Drawing from centuries of style and struggle, Perrin transforms recycled materials into striking wearable sculptures that confront today’s cultural narratives head-on.

HOOPLA uplifts self-identifying women, non-binary individuals, and people across the gender spectrum — inviting them to take up space, ignite dialogue, and make unapologetic noise.

What to Expect:
🔸 16 Wearable Sculptures
🔸 16 Portraits by Artists Across Regions

🔸 12 Locations

This isn’t just an exhibition — it’s a reclamation, a celebration, and a call to action.
